Highway-fund Tug-of-war Seen Sending House Bill To Obama – Bloomberg

Those provisions were vetted in the House before the measure was approved by the Ways and Means Committee , said the aides who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations. The House bill, H.R. 5021, is scheduled for a vote next week. Senate leaders are prepared to try to clear that measure if Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden s version doesnt gain much support, said the aides. The main divide in Congress is over how to boost long-term transportation funding, as current methods for financing, namely gasoline and diesel-fuel taxes, havent kept up with the pace of new projects. Time is running out and leaders are coalescing around a short-term fix. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx has said that without an agreement in Congress, federal payments to states will begin to slow as soon as Aug. 1. Tax Provisions Republicans probably wont support the Senate proposal because it would raise an additional $3.4 billion in tax revenue over 10 years with tax-compliance measures, according to a Republican aide who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the deliberations.

Get Helpful Tips About Time Management That Are Simple To Understand

Almost everyone could benefit from learning more effective time management. If you are always rushing, you may need to improve. However, good time management tips can help you accomplish more each day. Read on to learn some more.

Get a timer. How long do to want to spend on your task? Say you wish to work for about an hour. You might set a timer to give yourself breaks every fifteen minutes.

Start each day by filling in blanks in your schedule. If you have a plan and know what you are facing, you’ll be more likely to complete what you want. Review your day’s schedule so that you have not penciled in too many things.

Allow some time for inevitable interruptions. If you have certain tasks that need to be accomplished back to back, pay attention to the amount of traffic, or unexpected distraction that may pop up. When you leave room for these interruptions, you can remain on schedule.

If you’re having trouble managing your time, work on smaller tasks. Accept that you can’t always get everything done with no problems. Trying to do too much makes you crazy and exasperated, and quality is sure to suffer. Focus on just one project through its completion.

Begin your day by planning your day. Make an actual list of tasks and note how long it will take you to do each one. A schedule will make you feel less stressed.

Close the door to your office to be the most efficient. An open door gives others the impression that you’re available for their problems and questions. Shutting your door changes matters considerably and gives you the privacy you need to concentrate. This should signal others that you cannot be disturbed until you have finished your task.

Unless it’s crucial that you do so, do not answer your phone or read texts when you’re in the middle of something else. After being interrupted, it will be difficult to get back on task. Respond to your messages after you have finished your task at hand.

If you must improve some things in your life, try to stay focused. Never get too distracting while performing a task. A lot of the time people try to make you work harder by giving you extra things to do while you’re still trying to get a task done. Don’t allow anyone to do that. Always complete the task you’re working on before starting a new one.

Remember that sometimes you can’t do everything you want to do. In fact, often it is impossible. Only about 20 percent of activities, conversations and thoughts will actually produce about 80 percent of results. Do as much as possible, but set realistic goals.

Do the more difficult tasks first. Attending to the most challenging jobs facing you as soon as possible will really help you manage your time efficiently. This allows you to feel more relaxed so you can finish up the simpler tasks. If the most stressful items are completed early, the rest of your day should go by smoothly.

Now that you have read this article, you should have a better understanding of the basic principles of successful time management. Including this information into your daily routine will eventually lead to a positive outcome. This will improve the overall quality of your life.

What You Must Know About Leadership Skills

Have you ever backed down from being the leader in a situation? If this has happened to you and you want to be sure you are ready for any leadership openings or opportunities, then it’s of utmost importance for you to pay attention. You’ll get some help from this article in your leadership skills if you read over it carefully.

Your employees are not mind readers. Communicate exactly how you want a task to be completed, when you want it completed, and by what method you want it done. Have an open door policy. If the instructions are not clear, make it clear that anyone can come talk to you about it.

Remember to maintain high morals when you are in a leadership position. Any decision that you make must be something that you feel good about. If a decision is going to make you feel badly, don’t do it. While others may lack such strong morals, you must do what is right.

Be as transparent as possible with business issues. Unlike the old leaders who covered up problems, the great leaders of today are more upfront in their communication. What is the reason for this? It’s a very communicative world these days. The truth will come out whether you like it or not. Wouldn’t be better for you to be in control of how the story is told? Successful leaders have excellent communication skills.

Always adhere to high ethical standards when handling customers and employees. Every sound business must be ethical. Customers will keep coming back if they can trust you. By developing a set of moral responsibilities for your company’s employees, you can help ensure that the rules are followed.

It is important to be a leader that is approachable. Some leaders believe that intimidation and bullying is the best way to establish who’s in charge. That is false, and people will fear you and not respect you either. Let your subordinates know that you are there for them if they need anything since it is your job to make sure they do well.

Set missions and goals for everyone in your company. Use annual goals to motivate your employees to strive for greatness. Never let your goals fall by the wayside. Always focus on these goals during meetings and demand accountability for their success from yourself and your team.

As a leader, you should be working towards building a team that is strong and cohesive. Be open to talk to anyone who has a question or a problem. Let your team have some responsibility, and trust them to handle daily tasks.

Effective leaders solicit and listen to feedback from their employees. You may find valuable new ideas for a new product or ways you can improve workflow. Don’t hesitate to ask for your employees opinions out of fear of criticism. Acknowledging the opinions of your workforce will build trust.

Make sure that you’re always working on being an effective leader. This is a personal skill that should not be ignored. With the above suggestions under your belt, you should be better prepared. Make growing your leadership skills a priority in your life.

Wh Report Blames “corrosive Culture,” Bad Leadership At Va For Deadly Corruption « Hot Air

The report is correct that its not an indication ofquality care, but its the only possible metric to measure access to the system in the first place. The problem at the VA isnt that wait time was being measured, its that the VA leadership at all levels is focused more on protecting the bureaucracy than on serving its customers, because it has no competition to get it focused on customer service. Another problem area in the report is resources which means budgets: The technology behind the basic scheduling system is cumbersome and outdated. Additional resources, including doctors, nurses, trained support staff and other health professionals, are needed. Many of the resource issues facing the VA are similar to what exists in the private sector. But the VA has not clearly articulated its funding needs. Thats a joke, right? In six budgets signed by Barack Obama, funding for the VA rose 78%, as I wrote a month ago : In comparison to that final Bush budget dont forget that Obama signed the FY2009 budget in March 2009 with the omnibus spending bill after a Democrat-controlled Congress refused to deal with Bush VA spending has risen dramatically as well.
